Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. The classically trained Jane Child specializes in pleasant synth-pop songwriting, which saw some critics compare her to Princes more accessible moments. Signed with Warner Brothers Records, the tracks on her self-titled 1990 debut, including her US number 2 single Dont Wanna Fall In Love, were certainly difficult to dislike, offering pleasing and technically impeccable state of the art funk-pop. However, there remained something ultimately insubstantial about the collection, which failed to trouble record purchasers in sufficient numbers to make her a commercial proposition. The delayed follow-up, 1993s Here NotThere, was a more ambitious album that also failed to connect with record buyers. Child made an unexpected return to recording in the new millennium with the studio collection Surge.
