Jacquelyn Davette Velásquez, 15 October 1979, Houston, Texas, USA. Born into a family that was both musical and deeply religious, Velásquez grew up singing in church. She was still in her teens when she began touring the country with her parents, singing contemporary religious music. This was in 1995 and the manner in which she blended this music with aspects of contemporary pop found a very receptive audience. Her first album was released in 1996 and from it came five singles that were hits on Christian radio, while the album itself was certified platinum. Two of her subsequent albums went gold and from them came yet more Christian radio hits. Her first releases were English-language records but in 1998 she made Llegar A Ti, which was in Spanish and brought her crossover success. More successful singles resulted for Velásquez and she also picked up many awards, including a Premio Lo Nuestro Award for New Artist Of The Year.
