New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. The son of singer Aaron Neville, Ivan made his debut in 1988 with If My Ancestors Could See Me Now, recorded with Fabulous Thunderbirds and Billy Joel producer Danny Kortchmar and featuring Jeff Porcaro on drums. Despite garnering a strong critical reaction as a contemporaneous R&B/soul album, Neville left Polydor Records shortly after its release, citing managerial changes at the label as the reason for the debuts lack of commercial success. Certainly, it contained two high-quality singles in Falling Out Of Love (a duet with Bonnie Raitt) and Not Just Another Girl. Afterwards, Neville concentrated on touring and recording with the Neville Brothers, also working with Rufus (Chaka Khan), the Rolling Stones (singing backing vocals on Voodoo Lounge) and with Keith Richards Expensive Winos group.
