Biography
This dance music outfit are built around the prolific genius of Kevin Saunderson (9 May 1964, Brooklyn, New York, USA; programming), and the vocals of Paris Grey (b. Shanna Jackson, 5 November 1965, Glencove, Illinois, USA). Saunderson, who is also widely revered for his remix and recorded work under the title Reese Project, is the son of a member of the Marvelettes. He studied telecommunications at university, firing an interest in technology that would quickly become obvious in his musical leanings. Saunderson is the creative powerhouse of Inner City, writing all the songs and playing all the instruments, although Grey was responsible for writing her own melodies. Their first single together, 1988’s ‘Big Fun’, was lying around unissued in Saunderson’s home base of Detroit until a friend discovered it while looking for tracks for a compilation album.
