Biography
Ian Dawson Tyson, 25 September 1933, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. After the professional and personal break-up of Ian And Sylvia Tyson in the early 70s, Ian Tyson worked on his ranch in Longview, Alberta, Canada. His tributes to working cowboys, Old Corrals And Sagebrush (1983) and Ian Tyson (1984), were made with a similar simplicity to those by the Sons Of The Pioneers. The 1987 release Cowboyography then sold 50, 000 copies in Canada alone. Tyson had a hit with Navajo Rug which he wrote with his protégé Tom Russell and it has since been recorded by Jerry Jeff Walker. His songs show compassion and understanding for the cowboys life, and when they are not his own compositions, they are usually well-chosen cover versions, for example Night Riders Lament and Gallo Del Cielo.
