Biography

One of Sweden’s more extreme metal concerns, combining a musical intensity that borders on spite and unremittingly dark and violent lyrics. The band signed a recording contract with Nuclear Blast on the strength of a demo recorded by creative linchpin Peter Tägtgren (guitar/keyboards), who established Hyprocrisy in 1990. He recruited Masse Broberg (vocals), Jonas Österburg (guitar), Mikael Hedlund (bass) and Lars Szöke (drums) to record 1992’s Penetralia. Their reputation was established with the subsequent Osculum Obscenum, recorded without the departed Österberg, and European tours with labelmates Brutality. They reconvened as a trio for the recording of 1994’s The Fourth Dimension, with Tägtgren replacing Broberg as vocalist.
