Biography
Formed in 1989 in Champaign, Illinois, the first stable line-up of this US alternative rock band comprised Matt Talbott (27 June 1967, Geneseo, Illinois, USA; vocals/guitar), Andy Switzky (guitar), Balthazar Baltie De Lay (bass) and Bryan St. Pere (b. 2 April 1966, Evergreen Park, Illinois, USA; drums). Adhering rigidly to the principles of self-booked touring dates and independent releases, they steadily built an international following for their intelligent but caustic musicality and Talbotts engaging, oblique lyrics. Switzky and De Lay were subsequently replaced by Tim Lash (b. 16 June 1974, Champaign, Illinois, USA; guitar) and Jeff Dimpsey (b. 23 May 1967, Illinois, USA; bass), with the new line-up making its recording debut on the 1993 full-length Electra 2000.
