Hirax first formed in Los Angeles, California, USA, in 1984 - the band’s original line-up comprising Katon W. De Pena (vocals), Scott Owen (guitar), Gary Monardo (bass) and John Tabares (drums). Their promising demos attracted the attention of Metal Blade who included one of the band’s tracks on the Metal Massacre VI compilation album, released in 1985. A debut album, Raging Violence, was released for the same label in 1985. Full of short and ultra-fast thrash metal, it offered nothing very innovative. Shortly after its release, Tabares left the band to be replaced by ex-DRI percussionist Eric Brecht. Their next release was a mini-album, Hate, Fear And Power, released in 1986.
