Biography
Helen Schroder, 4 August 1904, New York, USA, d. 26 September 1966. Kane is remembered these days as the singer portrayed by Debbie Reynolds in Three Little Words, the 1950 film biography of songwriters Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby. Kane, (who dubbed Reynolds vocals), was the baby-voiced singer who rose to fame on Broadway in the late 20s. She began her career in vaudeville and night clubs but was much-acclaimed for an appearance with Paul Ash And His Orchestra at New Yorks Paramount Theatre. She was then featured in such Broadway shows as A Night In Spain (1927) and Good Boy (1928) in which she sang I Wanna Be Loved By You, the Boop-Boop-A-Doop hit that was re-created by Reynolds. After her Broadway success she moved to Hollywood in the late 20s, appearing in several films, including Nothing But The Truth (1929), featuring one of her biggest hits, Do Something, plus Sweetie (1929), Pointed Heels (1930), Dangerous Nan...
