Biography
This US band was formed in 2005 as a collaborative venture between Jon Spencer (Hanover, New Hampshire, USA) of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Matt Verta-Ray (b. USA) of Madder Rose and Speedball Baby. The project was intended to be a continuation of the two mens fascination with American roots music and punk, and the common ground to be found between the two genres. Heavy Trashs self-titled debut album veered away from the blues punk of the duos parent bands in favour of a collection of frantic honky tonk and rockabilly numbers. The resulting concoction was a highly enjoyable and seriously rocking album that was a vital addition to both mens résumés. Going Way Out With Heavy Trash, released in 2007, was a fine, rollicking follow-up, with Canadian roots rockers the Sadies and Danish rock n rollers Powersolo and Tremolo Beer Gut drafted in for additional support.
