Biography
5 October 1974, Barataria, Trinidad, West Indies. Unlike most modern day R&B singers, Headleys roots lay in Broadway musicals, and owing to several outstanding roles, ultimately helped her obtain a solo recording contract. Headleys parents were both pastors and she started her musical training at a very early age, performing in front of audiences at the age of two, and a couple of years later, was studying piano. By the time her family relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA, when she was 15, Headley had long ago become tantalized by a wide variety of musical styles, including American sounds such as R&B, as well as more exotic sounds from her native land (including calypso and reggae). Continuing her musical studies, Headley majored in musical theatre at Chicagos Northwestern University, before landing the role of the spirited lioness, Nala, in the Broadway hit, The Lion King.
