Joshua Hayes Carll, 1978, Houston, Texas, USA. During his teens Carll heard Bob Dylan, Lyle Lovettand others, and chose music as a career. He attended Hendrix College, Arkansas, studying history and theatre, and from there tried various labouring jobs, visited Croatia for six months, then moved to Austin, Texas. Playing guitar, Carll wrote songs that reflected his early background and his very different later life as a travelling musician. For a few years he lived in Crystal Beach, performing occasionally at the Old Quarter Acoustic Café in nearby Galveston. Usually he was the opening act for touring headliners, such as the Sisters Morales, Ray Wylie Hubbard and Willis Alan Ramsey.
The release of Carlls 2002 debut album Flowers And Liquor expanded his reputation on the roots rock scene and he was soon opening for more artists at venues throughout Texas. After his first record was released Carll formed his own Highway 87 label and...
