29 April 1937, Boone County, West Virginia, USA, d. 26 April 2005, Madison, West Virginia, USA. Adkins aka ‘The Haze’ was an unknown rockabilly artist during the 50s and early 60s, who was rediscovered during the 80s, re-emerging to record several new albums. He listened to hillbilly and bluegrass records in his youth, as well as country blues. He made his first guitar at the age of 10 and developed an act as a one-man-band, after mistakenly believing that a performer was required to play all of his own music on record. Another reason for playing solo was that Adkins created his own chords and rhythms, meaning bands were unable to follow him.

Adkins began recording his own songs on a home tape recorder in the early 50s. He recorded 18 singles at his shack home between 1955 and 1965, some primitive, non-commercial rockers with such titles as ‘Sex Crazy Baby’, ‘I Need Your Head’, ‘No More Hot Dogs’,...
