Biography
Led by vocalist/guitarist Tom Hazelmyer, also the boss of the bands label, the acclaimed Amphetamine Reptile Records, Halo Of Flies pioneered a corrosive garage punk sound that combined elements of Big Black -styled noise with a loose, MC5 -inspired rock n excess ethic. Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, the group was formed after Hazelmyer had enlisted in the US Marines (allegedly after imbibing chemical hallucinogenics). While stationed in Seattle he joined the U-Men, before establishing Halo Of Flies as a studio project after returning to Minneapolis. Recruiting high-school friend and drummer John Anglim, between 1985 and 1987 they recorded four 7-inch singles, each with a pressing of less than 1, 000 copies. These were later collected on the Singles Going Nowhere compilation in 1989 (the cover of which mimicked the Buzzcocks Singles Going Steady compilation), as the rarity value of originals began to reach astronomic proportions.
