Biography
Buenos Aires, Argentina. After studying piano and composition formally from the age of 11, Kleins ability and developing interest in jazz brought him to the Berklee College Of Music in 1990. There he continued his performance and composition studies with Hal Crook, Jeff Friedman, Herb Pomeroy and others. After graduation, he continued his studies in New York with Carlos Franzeti. From 1995 Klein arranged for Paquito DRiveras United Nation Orchestra and also led his own large ensemble, Big Van, on a regular weekly gig at Smalls. In his music, Klein displays his South American roots while alongside, and sometimes simultaneously, conveys impressions of his chief influences, among whom are Gil Evans, Duke Ellington, Astor Piazzolla, Steve Reich and Kenny Wheeler.
