Formed in 2004 in Brooklyn, New York City, by singer-songwriter Edward Droste, this US indie rock act originally started out as a one-man project. Droste created the basic tracks for the debut Grizzly Bear album in his bedroom studio, only bringing in multi-instrumentalist and electronics expert Christopher Bear towards the end of the recording sessions. Released later in 2004 on the independent Kanine label, Horn Of Plenty attracted plenty of interest in the independent press on both sides of the Atlantic, with its atmospheric, lo-fi drift leading many commentators to compare Grizzly Bear favourably to contemporaries and fellow experimenters Animal Collective and Kelley Stoltz. The album was re-released in 2005 with the addition of a remix disc, featuring notable mixes by Solex, Drew Daniel of Matmos and Soft Pink Truth, and Owen Pallett aka Final Fantasy.
