Biography
Gregory Lenoir Allman, 8 December 1947, Nashville, Tennessee, USA. A founder member of the Allman Brothers Band, Gregg Allman embarked on a solo career in 1973 following a hiatus in the groups progress. Laid Back, his debut album, highlighted the singers measured, bluesy approach and featured a version of Midnight Rider, a staple part of the early Allmans repertoire. A double set, The Gregg Allman Tour, documented the in-concert work of his band, while Playin Up A Storm consolidated the artists identity outside the parent group. Relations had been severed in 1976 during a drug trial when, under a promise of immunity, Allman had testified against a former road manager. His highly publicized marriage to Cher resulted in the couples Two The Hard Way album, but the relationship was short-lived.
