Biography
Based in Los Angeles, California, this US indie pop band was formed in 2005 by Solon Bixler (vocals/guitar) and Rachel Stolte (vocals/keyboards). Bixler had previously played with the LA-based alternative rockers 30 Seconds To Mars, leaving them in 2003 to concentrate on his own projects. After meeting with Stolte, the duo auditioned several musicians before recruiting Davey Latter (drums) and Ashley Dzerigian (bass) to complete the line-up of Great Northern. Signed to the independent label Eenie Meenie Records, the quartet released their debut, Trading Twilight For Daylight, in summer 2007. This pleasant collection of dreamy shoegaze-style pop was saved from indie mediocrity by the dual male/female vocals of Bixler and Stolte. Later in the year the band released the Sleepy Eepee EP, which featured material written and recorded prior to Trading Twilight For Daylight. Dzerigian was replaced by Michael Regilio at the start of the following year.
