Biography
September 1960, Queens, New York, USA. Trumpeter and cornetist Haynes was born into jazz: he is the son of jazz drummer Roy Haynes. Unlike many of his generation, the younger Haynes carries on the tradition in the manner of his father, espousing the belief that you hold onto the values of the past while you move toward the future. In 1985, Haynes made his recording debut on Steve Colemans Motherland Pulse, and went on to record with artists as varied as Cassandra Wilson, Ed Blackwell, Abbey Lincoln, Bill Laswell and Vernon Reid. His biggest influence appears to be Miles Davis, both in the sharp, biting (yet, at the core, melodious) tone of his brass instruments and the electronically enhanced, cross-cultural conception that defined the 1971-75 Davis recordings.
