Wichita, Kansas, USA. A gifted pianist and prolific composer, Goodwin is an in-demand session musician in Southern California. In addition to piano, he also plays tenor and soprano saxophones. To many fans, especially outside the USA, he is known chiefly through his leadership of the Big Phat Band. This is a Los Angeles-based rehearsal band, formed in 2000, the repertoire of which is made up largely of Goodwin’s compositions. These compositions draw upon and vividly present the powerful ensemble playing of the jazz and session musician that fill the band’s ranks. Among the instrumentalist who have played in the band are trumpeters Wayne Bergeron and Dan Fornero, trombonists Andy Martin and Alex Iles, saxophonists Dan Higgins, Eric Marienthal, Sal Lozano and Brian Scanlon, guitarist Grant Geissman, bass player Rick Shaw and drummer Bernie Dresel.
