Formed in 1997 in Oxfordshire, when brothers Robin Bennett (20 July 1978, London, England; vocals/guitar) and Joseph Bennett (b. 26 October 1980, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England; keyboards/guitar) met Garo Nahoulakian (b. 2 October 1981, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England; guitar), Jef Clayton (bass) and Graham Roby (b. 1 December 1973, Whiston, Yorkshire, England; drums), this UK band called themselves Whispering Bob until changing their name to Goldrush in January 2000. They released Same Picture on their own Truck Records label in 2001, which prompted Virgin Records to sign them. Their debut, Dont Bring Me Down, was released in 2002, and although sales were poor it was warmly received by fans and critics. Drawing influence from artists such as Neil Young, the Byrds and the Band, it was a likeable melodic album with a west coast country feel.
