This highly talented duo began recording together in 1976, having already enjoyed an illustrious career in British pop. Kevin Godley (7 October 1945, Manchester, England; vocals/drums) and Lol Creme (b. 19 September 1947, Manchester, England; vocals/guitar) had previously been involved with such groups as the Mockingbirds, Hotlegs and, most crucially, 10cc. After leaving the latter in 1976, they intended to abandon mainstream pop in favour of a more elaborate project. The result was a staggeringly overblown triple album Consequences, whose concept was nothing less than The Story Of Mans Last Defence Against An Irate Nature. The work was lampooned in the music press, as was the duos invention of a new musical instrument the Gizmo gadget, which had been used on the album.
