Biography

An intensely satanic black metal band from the Netherlands, the first incarnation of God Dethroned were formed in 1991 by Henri Sattler (vocals/guitar), Marco Arends (bass), Ard De Weerd (drums) and Oscar Carre (guitar), but lasted only long enough for one demo, 1992’s The Christhunt, to be produced. Although a certain degree of underground popularity was achieved, Sattler dissolved the band and recorded with a thrash outfit, Ministry Of Terror, which released Fall Of Life in 1994 and toured with Impaled Nazarene. While on the road Sattler was surprised at the number of fans who asked him about God Dethroned, and on his return decided to resurrect his old act with new members Jens (guitar), Beef (bass) and Roel (drums). After demoing new material, the band was rapidly signed to Metal Blade and released The Grand Grimoire in 1997.
