Giovanni Luigi Trovesi, 10 January 1944, Nembro, nr. Bergamo, Italy. Interested in music from early childhood, Trovesi played drums briefly, before switching to clarinet. He attended the Instituto Musicale Gaetano Donizetti in Bergamo where he studied harmony and counterpoint among many aspects of classical music. He also took an interest in developments in bop, although after graduating in 1966 he worked in dance bands that followed post-swing era style. Trovesi taught music and in 1978 won a national competition that earned him first alto chair in the Milan Radio Big Band. He also met and played regularly with guitarist Franco Cerri and pianist Giorgio Gaslini. Trovesi began touring, visiting several European countries and playing with artists such as Conrad Bauer, Gigi Cichellero, Gilberto Cuppini, Peter Kowald, Manfred Schoof and Günter Sommer.
