Biography

9 March 1903, Sandersville, Georgia, USA. The birth date was supplied by Big Bill Broonzy and, at the time of writing, it is not known whether Georgia White is still alive. Her first record was recorded for Vocalion Records in 1930 in the company of Jimmie Noone, but she enjoyed considerably greater success during the late 30s when she recorded almost 100 tracks for the Decca Records label. An excellent blues singer with an easy style, she was also a competent pianist and may, indeed, have worked for Decca as a house musician at one time. She worked, but did not record, with Bumble Bee Slim and during the late 40s formed an all-girl band. Around 1950 she was working as pianist in Big Bill's Laughing Trio and her last recorded appearance was at a Chicago club in 1959. Her blues were often humorous and she could play first-rate boogie-woogie, but she also had a more sober side.
