Biography
1949, Michigan, USA. Following many years of listening to music, his early heroes being Floyd Cramer, the Ventures and Booker T. And The MGs, Winston took up the piano at the age of 18. He switched to jazz after being influenced by the stride piano of Fats Waller. The mysterious and enigmatic Winston stopped playing in 1977 until the music of Professor Longhair inspired him to return. Between 1980 and 1982 he recorded a trilogy of albums which have subsequently sold millions of copies. The sparse and delicate piano music of Autumn, Winter Into Spring and December gave a new dimension to solo piano recording, engineered to such perfection that the instrument truly becomes part of the room the listener is in. Not one note is wasted and he plays as if each were his last.
