Biography

Led by vocalist George Bouens - who assumed the stage surname ‘Baker’ - this MOR Dutch quintet scaled charts throughout Europe and then North America in 1970 with a debut single, ‘Little Green Bag’, composed by Bouens and group member Jan Visser. Bouens alone wrote his Selection’s next major hit, ‘Una Paloma Blanca’, which caught a holiday mood during the summer of 1975. Despite a cover version by Jonathan King, it reached the UK and Australasian Top 10 charts and sold a million in Germany alone. There were no further international smashes but, despite a brisk turnover of personnel, the band continued as domestic chart contenders until the 80s.
