Biography

Gene Thomas (28 December 1938, Palestine, Texas, USA) was already a hit-maker in his own right before teaming up with Debbe Neville in 1967. Thomas had logged two chart hits: 1961's "Sometime' and 1964"s "Baby's Gone", both country ballads. He met Neville when he was a staff songwriter for Acuff-Rose music in Nashville. Their first single, on TRX Records, "Go With Me", was a minor hit but "Playboy" the following year made it to the US Top 20. After one last collaboration, "Lovin' Season", the duo split up, Thomas returned to his writing job and Neville disappeared from the pop music scene.
