Biography

20 April 1958, Chicago, Illinois, USA, d. 23 September 2007, Austin, Texas, USA. Although raised in Gary, Indiana, where he studied communications media at Indiana University, Primich spent some of his formative years in Chicago listening to blues singers and players. He developed his own singing and learned to play harmonica and also guitar. After graduating from university, he took a job in Austin, Texas, where he began playing in the city’s blues clubs. This was in the mid-80s and later in the decade Primich was a founder member, with drummer Jimmy Carl Black, of the Mannish Boys. After issuing A L’il Dab’ll Do Ya (1988), andSatellite Rock (1989) with the band, Primich recorded under his own name and soon had a strong following in and around Texas, a following that was extended owing to the critical favour that greeted his 90s releases.
