Biography

10 March 1955, Toledo, Ohio, USA. Guitarist and singer-songwriter Louris was a founding member of the much-loved Minneapolis roots rock band, the Jayhawks, and acted as the principal songwriter following the departure of co-founder Mark Olson in 1995. During this period Louris also worked with the musical collective Golden Smog, a project that outlived the Jayhawks into the late 00s. After the Jayhawks went on indefinite hiatus in 2005, Louris began work on a solo album while working as a jobbing songwriter, contributing material to albums by the Dixie Chicks, Nickel Creek and the Sadies. He toured with Olson in late 2005/early 2006 under the banner, From The Jayhawks: An Evening With Mark Olson & Gary Louris. Released at the start of 2008 by Rykodisc Records, and produced by Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes, his debut album, Vagabonds, was a delightful reminder of Louris’ insightful lyrical style and his ability to craft effortless country pop...
