Biography

l January 1947, Paris, Texas, USA, d. 14 February 1994. Coleman remembers hearing blues on record and radio as a child, and recalls his favourites as Jimmy Reed, Muddy Waters, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Chuck Berry and Freddie King. He taught himself to play guitar around the age of 11; it remains his main instrument, although he is now a multi-instrumentalist. He has always worked as a professional musician; in 1986 he recorded an album for his own Mr B.’s Records label, which was leased to Ichiban Records who went on to make it a very successful seller. Coleman has since become a major figure at Ichiban, not only with his own contemporary blues records, but also for his work as producer and musician with such artists as Barbara Lynn, Blues Boy Willie, ‘Little’ Johnny Taylor, and Chick Willis.
