One of several bands capitalizing upon the rising popularity of a musical form that took as its base traditional accordion-based merengue sounds from the Dominican Republic, blending it with contemporary rap and pop. Each of the US-born musicians and rappers who formed Fulanito brought to the band individual concepts of how the fusion might be effected and this led to a repertoire that touches upon many aspects of hot Latin music. Among band members joining songwriter and lead rapper Rafael Vargas (Washington Heights, Manhattan, New York City, New Yok, USA; ex-2 In A Room) have been Wellinghton Belen, José Fuentes, Elvin Ovalles, Marino Paredes, José Arsenio Rosa, Winston Rosa. Targeting in particular the younger generation, Fulanito has enjoyed hits with singles such as ‘Guallando’ and ‘El Cepillo’ (from their half-million selling 1997 debut El Hombre Mas Famoso De La Tierra), ‘Pecho-A-Pachuga’ and ‘La Novela’....
