Leslie Pridgen, 8 July 1979, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. As part of Jay-Zs Roc-A-Fella stable of artists, Freeway hit the upper reaches of the US charts in 2003 with his tough, streetwise rap. Growing up in the northern section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, Freeway turned to hustling on the streets early on, at one point serving a six-month long jail sentence for possession of illegal narcotics with intent to deliver. Upon his release, Freeway opted to pursue rap more seriously, as his unique and unpredictable rhyming style caught the attention of Jay-Z, who in turn signed the rapper. It was also around the same time of singer Aaliyahs tragic plane crash, and according to Freeway, she was on her way to work with the rapper in Miami to work on a remix together.
