20 November 1954, Montreal, Canada. This formidable guitarist obsessively based his style on Jimi Hendrix, although the rumour that he gained his instrumental skills after being visited by an apparition of Hendrix while recovering in hospital from a bad drugs experience has since been dismissed by Marino. Forming Mahogany Rush in 1970 (later known as Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush), Marino built up a substantial following for his dazzling guitar work. After the original Mahogany Rush petered out in the mid-80s, Marino recorded two solo albums that showcased his talents to great effect. He also worked with the Montreal-based artists Six Was Nine and Nanette Workman, before reviving the Mahogany Rush name for further live and studio work.
