Biography
Recovering in hospital from a bad drugs experience, Frank Marino (20 November 1954, Montreal, Canada) was allegedly visited by an apparition of Jimi Hendrix. After leaving hospital he picked up a guitar for the first time and was able to play Hendrix riffs, or so the legend runs (Marino denies ever having made such a claim). Mahogany Rush was formed in Montreal during 1970 when Marino recruited bass player Paul Harwood and drummer Jim Ayoub to fulfil his wish to work in a power trio format. Their first three albums were derivative in the extreme; every component of Hendrixs unique style had been dismantled, adapted, then rebuilt under new song titles. Nevertheless, they were not dismissed as copyists, but instead revered for paying tribute in such an honest and sincere fashion.
