Biography

22 December 1958, Canberra, Australia. A virtuoso guitarist nicknamed ‘The Thunder From Down Under’, Gambale has lived in Los Angeles for more than a decade and, after making his name with fusion keyboard legend Chick Corea’s popular Elektric Band, is most commonly associated with America’s west coast fusion/studio scene. In Australia he began his career concentrating on the pop field, singing and playing guitar in vocal-orientated bands. He became involved in Hollywood’s celebrated Guitar Institute of Technology in 1982, when he moved to the US, first enrolling as a student and finally staying on as a teacher, before joining Chick Corea’s group in 1986. He stayed with the outfit for seven years, soloing infrequently but blinding other guitarists with his advanced technical facility during the band’s stunningly fast and intricate ensemble passages.
