Biography
This UK electric folk rock unit formed in 1975, and was often compared with the JSD Band. Originally known as Spencers Feat, the first line-up of 5 Hand Reel included Dick Gaughan (Richard Peter Gaughan, 17 May 1948, Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, Scotland; vocals, guitar, mandolin), Chuck Fleming (fiddle), Tom Hickland (b. Belfast, Northern Ireland; keyboards, fiddle, vocals), Barry Lyons (b. England; bass, keyboards, ex-Trees and Mr. Fox) and Dave Tulloch (b. Scotland; drums, percussion). Bobby Eaglesham (b. 1942, Coatbridge, Scotland, d. 14 October 2004, Falkirk, Scotland; vocals, mandolin, guitar, dulcimer) replaced Fleming before the recording of the quintets self-titled debut album, released by the Rubber label in 1976.
