Biography

Formed in 1998 by singer-songwriter Krayg Burton aka Greg Bertens, the line-up of this San Francisco, California-based indie rock band has gone through several changes during the course of its erratic career. The band’s 2001 debut, Brilliant Career, was recorded by Burton with a number of musicians, including Scott Kannberg of Pavement. The mix of post-rock, dream pop and shoegaze was at times obscure but demonstrated a willingness to experiment. Nyles Lannon (guitar), Jason Ruck (keyboards), Justin LaBo (bass) and Ben Montesano (drums) subsequently joined Burton (now calling himself Greg Bertens) as Film School developed into a more permanent project. A series of single releases on the Amazing Grease and Full Frame labels followed before the band signed a new recording contract with Beggars Banquet Records.
