Biography

Comprising Jeff Limbo (vocals), Hank Shermann (Rene Krolmark, Denmark; guitar), Pete Steiner (bass) and Bob Lance (drums), Danish hard rock band Fate formed from the remains of Mercyful Fate in the mid-80s. Immediately, the band, ostensibly led by Shermann, moved away from Mercyful Fate’s more mythology-based material to a melodic, contemporary metal sound redolent of outfits such as Survivor. Despite a major label recording contract with EMI Records, their self-titled debut failed to impress critics. A Matter Of Attitude, released in 1987, signalled a refinement of their previous sound, with more upbeat lyrics and melodies akin to Bon Jovi or Van Halen. Crusin’ For A Brusin’ was a more disciplined conventional hard rock effort but again failed to achieve significant export sales outside of Scandinavia. Shermann rejoined Mercyful Fate in the early 90s.
