Biography
Australian indie pop band Even was formed in Melbourne at the start of 1994 by Ashley Naylor (guitar/vocals), Wally Kempton (bass/vocals), Matthew Cotter (drums). Naylor and Cotter had previously played together in the Swarm, while Kempton also worked with the power pop band the Meanies. The trios debut EP In Stereo set out their modus operandi - 60s-styled pop rock with the Beatles an obvious influence. Signed to the nationally distributed Rubber Records label, the trio released a series of further EPs before making its album debut in 1996 with the uneven Less Is More. The following years Come Again was a real gem, a hook-laden collection of 60s pastiches that earned Even comparisons to American contemporaries Jellyfish and the Posies.
