15 October 1977, Fredricksburg, Virginia, USA. One of a growing number of US singer-songwriters who refuse to be limited by rigid musical categorisations, McKeowns songs draw on a wide spectrum of traditional American styles. She learned to play piano, guitar, and drums as a youngster, and was writing her own material in her early teens. It was while studying Ethnomusicology at Brown University that McKeown launched the start-up label TVP Records and made her recording debut in 1998 with the Monday Morning Cold cassette. This collection of demos and live material was remastered and resequenced for CD release the following year. Distillation followed in 2000, and received wider distribution through Signature Records label in America and by Parlophone Records in the UK.
