10 October 1960, Long Island, New York, USA. The members of San Francisco, California, USA-based rock outfit the Eric Martin Band were drawn from an earlier collective who recorded an independently released album for the local Californian rock underground. With their new billing, giving greater prominence to singer/guitarist and songwriter Eric Martin, they secured a recording contract with CBS Records, which resulted in the release of Sucker For A Pretty Face in 1983 - a consummate example of melodic west coast metal. Afterwards, however, Martin took sole billing and dismissed his former colleagues to pursue a solo career with Capitol Records. After a disappointing self-titled solo album in 1985 he returned to form with the release of Im Only Fooling Myself in 1986, though some considered the title to be an accurate reflection of his long-term prospects within the music industry.
