Biography
15 October 1970, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. Along with Rahsaan Patterson, DAngelo and Tony Rich, Benét is representative of the revival of the singer-songwriter tradition in modern urban soul. After gaining valuable experience as a featured singer with touring bands, Benét formed his own self-titled trio with his sister and his cousin George Nash Jnr. Having developed his own songwriting, he signed with Warner Brothers Records as a solo artist, writing and co-producing his acclaimed 1997 debut True To Myself. Heavily influenced by Stevie Wonder, Al Green and Sly Stone, the albums highlights varied from the slow-burning, confessional title-track and the romantic balladry of Ill Be There, to the funky groove of Spiritual Thang and the cover version of Stones If You Want Me To Stay.
