Biography
This US band was formed in Chicago in the mid-80s and comprised Rick Rizzo (guitar, vocals), Janet Beveridge Bean (10 February 1964, Bartow, Florida, USA; drums), Douglas McCombs (bass) and Baird Figi (guitar, vocals). Its brand of college-rock, in the mould of the Pixies and Dream Syndicate, drew on music from the 60s and 70s, with the guitar histrionics of Television, Neil Young and Crazy Horse combined with a whiff of psychedelia. Signed to the Atlantic Records label, Eleventh Dream Day seemed set to break away from their cult status in the 90s. This impetus was struck a blow early in 1991 when Figi quit and was replaced by Matthew Wink OBannon. Lived To Tell was recorded in a studio-converted Kentucky barn in an attempt to obtain the feeling of a live recording, but it ended up sounding even more mannered than the previous albums.
