Adopting a collective moniker that translates as ‘after noise’, Casper Clausen (vocals), Mads Christian Brauer (electronics), Rune Fonseca Mølgaard (piano), Thomas Kirirath Husmer (drums, trumpet, vocals), Rasmus Stolberg (guitar), Karim Ghahwagi (visuals), Helianne Blais (violin) and Niklas Antonson (trombone/vocals) create a dramatic music located, aesthetically, at some point between the US contemporary classical group Rachel’s and the Icelandic triumvirate of Sigur Rós, atmosphericists Múm and occasional co-conspirators Amiina. As well as working with members of the latter string quartet, Efterklang have worked with Greenlandic choirs to attain a sense of drama and sometime melancholy such that each of the translations of their name seems apposite and relevant.
