14 October 1895, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, d. 16 August 1925, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Sister of Herb Morand, and step-sister of Lizzie Miles, Hicks was a light-voiced singer reminiscent of Esther Bigeou. In musical comedy from 1916, she recorded vaudeville blues for no fewer than eight companies in 1923-24. Her death, the result of burns after a domestic accident with gasoline, robbed the blues of a promising artist.
