Biography

Edgar Dean Glosup, 9 July 1907, Posey, Texas, USA, d. 4 March 1999, Thousand Oaks, California, USA. Dean first worked with his elder brother Jimmy on WLS Radio’s National Barn Dance in Chicago in the early 30s, before moving to Los Angeles in 1937. He subsequently appeared in films with Ken Maynard and Gene Autry and from 1946-48, he had his own film series for which he also wrote most of the title songs. A fine guitarist and singer, he first made the US country charts in 1948 with his song ‘One Has My Name (The Other Has My Heart)’ but he also had a Top 10 hit, in 1955, with his cleverly compiled ‘I Dreamed Of A Hillbilly Heaven’, which became a pop hit for Tex Ritter in 1961. In 1993 he was inducted into the Cowboy Hall Of Fame.
