Biography
The nom de plume adopted by guitarist Richard Warren (ex-Hybirds), who as a solo artist has eschewed the traditional guitar rock of his former band in favour of a dazzling synthesis of indie pop and electronica. Unfortunately, Warren gained more headlines by turning down an offer to become Oasis new rhythm guitarist in 1999 than he has for his music. The influence of pioneering electronic duo Suicide shone through on Echoboys debut single Flashlegs (Suite), released in July 1998 on the Point Blank label shortly before the demise of the Hybirds. His self-titled debut followed in January 1999, prompting a bemused music press to attempt to pigeonhole Warrens atmospheric mixture of styles. A recording contract with Mute Records followed limited edition releases for Earworm and Rough Trade Records.
