Biography
A string band of part-time musicians that was formed in Lindale, Texas, in the late 20s. The original members were Cloet Hammen (guitar), Huggins Williams (Daniel Williams, 13 September 1900; fiddle), Henry Bogan (cello, string bass) and John Munnerlyn (tenor banjo) but a second fiddle played by Henry Lester was soon added. Hammens family were all musical, his father was a noted Texas fiddler and as a boy, Cloet played guitar accompaniment for his father at fiddle contests. Williams father also played fiddle and taught Huggins as a child, although the fact that Huggins was left-handed caused initial problems until a suitable instrument was obtained. Bogan was noted for his ability to play, by bow or by plucking the strings, his three-stringed cello. Munnerlyn, who played on their early recordings, was later replaced by banjoist Shorty Lester.
