Biography
Formed in Columbus, Ohio, by Mike Conte (guitar, bass, vocals) and Adam Bennati (drums), this US retro-metal band was championed as one of the new wave of hipster metal bands to emerge in the mid-00s. Despite having only formed in 2004, the duos no-frills brand of classic heavy metal quickly attracted a cult audience. After relocating from Ohio to New York City, Conte and Bennati completed their self-titled EP for the independent Monitor label. Following the release of the EP in April 2005, the duo was snapped up by leading independent label Matador Records, and released Closing In later in the year. The album built on the success of the earlier EP, mining a rich seam of classic metal riffs inspired by Black Sabbath , Celtic Frost and Iron Maiden, although there was very little wit or originality on show.
